Founding Story - A Brother's Testimony
I am fortunate that my brother Mike is blessed with seemingly infinite fortitude. If you’ve met him, you know he is almost always the happiest person in the room. His laughter is infectious, and he’s never afraid to jump into a conversation. He and I have been blessed with a loving family and loyal group of longtime friends.
Unfortunately, Mike is an anomaly. More often, the lives of persons who stutter (“PWS”) are marred by teasing, bullying, and misunderstanding. Only until recently, when Mike began to seriously struggle for the first time, did I come to understand the full breadth of what a person who stutters endures. Minor experiences such as ordering takeout, and major experiences like dating compound to create entrenched layers of anxiety. It is those, overcome by frustration and loneliness due to their stutter, for whom my brother and I are on a mission to reimagine the stuttering treatment journey.
